Thanks to the wonderful group of people at HARO, I’ve received several dozen submissions for my article about the best blogs on online marketing strategies.
You do know about HARO, right? It stands for Help A Reporter Out, and is run by Peter Shankman. In a nutshell, it’s a mailing list which pairs sources and reporters (or in some cases, authors, blog writers, and talk show hosts).
Every day, Peter sends out up to three emails with anywhere from 15-30 queries. Not only is this a way to pitch a story to a reporter or writer, but it’s a great way to do research for your own projects. For example, a few months ago I began requesting submissions for a best blogs list I’ve been working on. The process has been painstakingly slow. I asked friends, colleagues, and even put the request out on on Twitter. Only a few submissions trickled in. However, as soon as I posted my request on HARO ~ Bingo! I had hit the motherlode.
The list is also a way to start building your own media contact list. You’ll also be able to identify and track trends by looking at the the types of stories the media is currently interested in.
Peter doesn’t charge for the subscription. To subscribe or post a query, visit: http://www.helpareporterout.com.
